Foundation donation expands endoscopy services at Stawell
Patients of all ages requiring complex endoscopic procedures will soon have improved access to care at Grampians Health Stawell, thanks to a significant donation from the Stawell Hospital Foundation.
The Foundation has donated $50,800 to fund a specialised paediatric long colonoscope for the Operating Suite, strengthening gastroenterology and surgical services at the Stawell campus. The equipment will allow clinicians to perform procedures that are not always possible with a standard colonoscope, improving access to complex endoscopic care for local patients.
Grampians Health Stawell Perioperative Manager Sally Hamilton said the specialised scope would improve the hospital's ability to manage more complex cases locally.
"The paediatric long colonoscope is longer and more flexible than a standard colonoscope, making it easier to navigate complex or tortuous colons," Ms Hamilton said.
"Despite its name, it is most commonly used for adult patients when a conventional colonoscope cannot be advanced successfully.
"By adding this equipment to our Operating Suite, we will be able to complete more complex endoscopic procedures here in Stawell, reducing the need for repeat procedures or referrals to larger hospitals.
“This means more patients can receive the care they need closer to home."
Stawell Hospital Foundation Trustee Brian Hancock said the Foundation was proud to support equipment that enhanced local healthcare services and improved patient access to specialist care.
"This specialised colonoscope is a great example of how Foundation support can make a direct difference to local patients and clinicians," Mr Hancock said.
"Investing in modern medical equipment helps strengthen the services available at Grampians Health Stawell, allowing more patients to receive care closer to home.
"The Foundation is pleased to continue supporting initiatives that improve healthcare outcomes for our community."
Grampians Health Chief People Officer Claire Woods thanked the Stawell Hospital Foundation for its ongoing support.
“The patronage of local fundraising groups like the foundation helps us to grow our capacity to deliver services in the Stawell region and we will always be grateful for that strong community support,” Ms Woods said.
